Achievements of 2008

2008 was gone in a flash. I felt like so many things happened yet time flew past so fast. So with my memory still fresh of events of yesteryear, let me archive my thoughts on some of my major accomplishments in 2008.

I believe the most life changing event last year was starting my own blog after being heavily influenced by someone. Blogging really broadens my social circle and I got to know many comrades with similar interests. Prior to blogging, I often kept to myself and stayed at home. Now it feels great getting to meet new people. Blogging really changed my life. Seriously.

The second most significant achievement was joining the 501st Legion. Previously I have no idea what the 501st Legion was until I saw the local 501st garrison in the Chingay parade (video here). It was so cool seeing so many troopers in one place. I never knew such an organisation existed in Singapore. From the patch worn on the trooper’s shoulder, I came to know of them as the 501st Legion and did some research of them. In June last year, I approached the 501st Legion at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention and the rest was history.

After getting to know the 501st people, I realise they are very passionate in Star Wars and dedicated to getting their armour as movie accurate as possible. The 501st Legion commits to charity work so we get to enjoy ourselves and at the same time give back to the society as well. Win win situation. (‘~’)

Other noteworthy experiences includes meeting up with Danny, getting nominated for the Singapore Blog Awards and picking up photography. 2008 is also the year I watch the most animes. In 2007 I was pretty much a Narutard and Bleachtard.

Looking forward, have no major plans for 2009 yet. Maybe just continue doing what I enjoy doing most. Namely animes, figures, looking for the droid I’m looking for and more trooping events, preferably overseas ones, hopefully Japan if there’s a chance. Will be awesome to troop with the famous resident Tokyo trooper in Akiba. ^^;

Lastly something unrelated, a remembrance to the ones who left us last year.

  3. xJAYMANx says:

@Gordon: Umm, in that armored-group photo, I don’t think your little red cap is quite movie accurate, lol… But maybe it’s accurate for the infamous 1978 Star Wars Christmas Special, haha. >_<

  13. Pyoro says:

that trooper photo with the uob buuilding at the back was really something, with the ominous skyline and all.
it takes a lot of effort to maintain a blog, much less coming out tops. (me lazy ^^) kudos for that!

  14. Wow, so many achievements in just a year. Congrats dude!

  15. samejima says:

My only achievement on 2008 was having purchased my own domain name…

  17. lovelyduckie says:

wow I’m a bit sad I read this…sigh…accidentally seeing spoilers I’m not warned about is the one thing I hate about blogs.

  18. rangerroh says:

    @ lovelyduckie,
lol sorry about that. these animes ended months ago though.

    @ rangerroh,
thanks i will strike hard for it.

    @ Rin,
Sure i’ll love to join u. but my only request is no dancing from me.

  21. xjaymanx says:

@Gordon: Yeah, infamous! I guess u didn’t see Carrie Fisher singing as Princess Leia?… And about my finger slice: Haha, true! It ain’t easy. But I display an older finger slice as a reference on my screen, then take several shots until I get it right. The closer I get it right, the better I can see the healing progress. Makes sense?

  22. chun says:

It’s good to know U via the internets ^^/ keep up the good work!

  23. super rats says:

Nice to see a post on the good side of blogging.

  25. RIP Shirley!!! Argh Rolo!!! anyways haha..
My goal for 2009 is to make sure my blog does get some success!

  26. Len-Vesper says:

You did very well for yourself, Gordon, you have a lot to be rightfully proud of. I know how you felt as well, I kind of shut-in and was introverted myself as well given my likes and where I used to live. Wasn’t a very nice place for otaku types, very condescending, etc.

Anyway, like you, blogging got me a bit more open as well, so I know how you feel.

    Feels awesome, doesn’t it? XD

Success, happiness and health to you in the new year, Gordon. May you rise in the ranks of the 501st.

  27. gordon says:

    @ xjaymanx,
the wookie cooking one is even more funnier. lol. what is george thinking!?

    @ chun,
glad to know u after years of following your work.

    @ super rats,
knowing more people is always good. the more friends u have, the wealthier u are.

    @ marvin,
a simple life is all i ask for.

    @ AnimeVocalist,
    good luck to that.

    @ Len-Vesper,
thanks for the encouragement. success to u as well.

  28. jusuchin85 says:

I too felt the same when I started my own blog…but maybe because I was too active here and there that I never really took off. After meeting you guys, I really feel that I have friends outside my social circle in Malaysia. With 2009 here, I hope to keep up with the resolutions as well as keeping in touch with the people around me. Evermore, since I’ll be a little free this year, maybe I can come down and find you, gordon! Hopefully that will materialise soon! >.<

Kudos to 2008, and welcome 2009!

    Hello webmaster
I would like to share with you a link to your site
    write me here

  30. click says:

I was curious about if you ever thought of changing the layout of your website? Its well written; I really like what youve got to state. But maybe you could include a little more in the way of written content so people could connect with it better. You have got a great deal of text for only having one or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
